WGC on Dummies Training Day – April 16th

April 16th, we had a great day on our WGC on Dummies Training Day! The sun shone, the dummies flew and plenty of laughs were shared.
We started the day with a quick briefing going over what to expect on the assessment day. Then we headed out on a lovely social bumble through some woodland which would be the first point of marking. The rest of the morning consisted of a simulated beating line which tested self-control, steadiness and hunting and a picking up line which tested steadiness, self-control and honouring. This was followed by marked retrieves for the picking up team and sweeping through for the beating line. The teams then switched rolls so everyone got to experience both sides.
After lunch we looked at the water and obstacle retrieves. This consisted of a marked retrieve off of water and then marked retrieves over an obstacle (in our case we used a ditch). The water retrieves looked at the confident entry to the water, the direct return with the dummy and also the hand delivery. With the obstacle retrieve we worked through some barriers giving the dogs confidence with getting over the ditch and also perception of the distance needed after crossing the ditch.
We ended our day with some great hunting with stopping to shot, marking and retrieving.
Then back to base for a debrief and answering of any questions that had come up over the day and any pointers for going forward.
Thanks to Jules for hosting, our lovely helpers and all of our participants with their fab dogs for making it a great fun filled day.
We look forward to seeing you at our next event 😊
